Why does the right wing believe America is a "beacon of hope" and yet the government is "out to get them"?

How to reconcile this? That's easy. The "beacon" is NOT the government, it's the rights, liberties and the opportunities that those provide that are the beacon. Conservatives understand that the proper role of government is to protect those rights and liberties. That is where the concept of limited government comes in. The type of rights that are described in the Declaration of Independence and protected in the Constitution don't come from government, they come from "The Creator". Limited government allows you to exercise these rights. Excessive government smothers them.
