You shouldn't be messing with it until it heals. If I were you, I'd call up the shop where you got your lip done and ask them if it would be possible to change the jewelry for you to a stud or something. But if your work told you to take it out, replacing it with a stud might not be enough. Sucks, but you probably will have to take it out and get it re-pierced another time.
