Baby inhaling fumes of burnt stainless steel?

My brother left a stainless steel pan on the stove to boil water with the lid closed. Then we all went outside and totally forgot about switching the stove off, only to come home and find the stainless steel pot charred to the point of its bottom chipping! My house is now filled with that nasty burnt pot /melted metal smell....Does anyone know if these fumes are toxic? I have a two month old baby and really worried about him inhaling this stuff! I am trying to air out the house as much as possible and isolating the baby in a room with an open window.
