What does a forceps [ Lab apparatus ] look like? Is it the one used in giving birth, or the scissor-like one?

What you're thinking of are Obstetrical Forceps, which is just one type. The ones that you'd most commonly encounter in a lab look like tweezers, and there are tons of varieties. The other type you described sounds like Kelly Forceps, which are a type of hemostat - they have gripping pads at the end, and on the handle, they have a latching mechanism, so they can be used to clamp shut a blood vessel. Most forceps aren't scissor-like, though. Some have gripping pads at the end, some are smooth, some are very sharp and pointy for dissection, etc.
