What are Orthodox Christians' view on Islam and Muslims?

Everyone is aware of the current animosity between Israeli Jews and their Muslim neighbors. With the Ottoman empire being the neighbor of Serbia, Romania and Russian empires for so long I wonder if this led to either a cordial or grudging co-acceptance or a similar animosity. I guess I'm interested in both the official Orthodox church's stance as well as that of the bulk of its adherents.
